The government will increase access to electricity through upgrading and expansion of
the national power transmission and distribution network to improve supply and reliability, reduce losses and connect two million new customers by 2017. Rural Electrification Authority (REA) will continue implementing Rural Electrification
Programme countrywide and targets to connect 6,304 public facilities.These will include electrifying the remaining 2,600 main public facilities (trading centres, secondary schools, health centres and dispensaries) and other public facilities including primary schools, tea buying centres, water supply systems, places of worship among others.
