In order to meet the energy needs, the government has proposed power generation
mix which includes nuclear energy. The projects to be implemented include:
- Establishment of a Centre for Nuclear Research for Peaceful Applications: The core mandate of the research Centre will be to sustain peaceful applications of nuclear energy for power generation, for isotopes in industries, groundwater resource management, medicine for cancer treatment and agriculture. The Centre will also conduct
research in spent fuel processing, and safe disposal of nuclear waste.
- Establishment of the Kenya Institute of Oil and Gas (KIOG) and the Kenya Institute of Mining and Geology:The goal of the project is to provide skills for petroleum and mining industry to enable workers and enterprises to
improve productivity.
